Giles County (Virginia)

Giles County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 16,657 inhabitants and a population density of 18 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pearisburg. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

Giles County is located in western Virginia, bounded on the southeast by West Virginia and has an area of 933 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Craig County, Montgomery County, Pulaski County and Bland County.

History

Made it in 1806 from parts of Montgomery County, Tazewell County, Craig County and Wythe County. It was named after William Branch Giles, a lawyer, member of the House and Governor of Virginia.
