New Kent County, Virginia
New Kent County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 13,462 inhabitants and a population density of 25 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is New Kent.
New Kent County is located in east-central Virginia and has an area of 579 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: King William County, King and Queen County, James City County, Charles City County, Henrico County, and Hanover County.
Made it was in 1654 from parts of York County and James City County. It was named after Kent, England.
According to the census of 2000, there were 13,462 people in New Kent County. Of these, 396 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 4,925 households and 3,895 families. The population density was 25 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 80.26 percent White, 16.20 percent Black or African American, 1.29 percent Native American, 0.53 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.53 percent from other races groups; 1.17 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.31 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,925 households out of which 34.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 66.6 percent were married couples living together, 9.0 percent were single mothers, 20.9 percent were non-families, 16.6 percent of all households and 5.6 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 2.97.
Based on the county the population was spread from 25.0 percent population under 18 years, 5.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 32.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 27.7 percent between 45 and 64 years and 9.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 102.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.9 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 53,595, and the median income for a family was $ 60,678. Males have a median income of $ 40,005, women $ 28,894. The per capita income was $ 22,893. 4.9 percent of the population and 3.4 percent of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 7.4 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 7.0 percent of those 65 years.
