Dickenson County, Virginia

Dickenson County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States and is Virginia's newest County. In the 2000 census, the county had 16,395 inhabitants and a population density of 19 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Clintwood. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

Dickenson County is located almost in the far west of Virginia, bordered to the north Kentucky and has an area of 864 square kilometers, of which five square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Buchanan County, Russell County and Wise County.

History

Made it in 1880 from parts of Buchanan County, Russell County and Wise County. It was named after the political leader William J. Dickinson.
