Montgomery County (Virginia)

Montgomery County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 83 629 inhabitants and a population density of 83 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Christiansburg. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

Montgomery County is located in the central southwest Virginia, is located in the north about 30 miles from West Virginia and has an area of 1009 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Roanoke County, Floyd County, Pulaski County, Giles County and Craig County.

History

Made it in 1772 from parts of Fincastle County. It was named after Richard Montgomery, a general in the American Revolutionary War.
