King William County, Virginia

King William County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 13,146 inhabitants and a population density of 18 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is King William. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

King William County is located in northeastern Virginia and has an area of 740 square kilometers, of which 26 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: King and Queen County, New Kent County, Hanover County and Caroline County.

History

Made it in 1702 from parts of King and Queen County. It was named after William III. , King of England, Scotland and Ireland. The county courthouse, built in 1725, is the oldest courthouse in the United States, which was used continuously.
