Northampton County (Virginia)

Northampton County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 13,093 inhabitants and a population density of 24 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Eastville.

Geography

Northampton County is located in the south on the Delmarva Peninsula, Virginia upstream on the Chesapeake Bay and has an area of 2,060 square kilometers, of which 1523 square miles are water. It is bordered to the north by the Accomack County.

History

Made it in 1634 as an Original County. From colonial times to today, the production of agricultural products came first. The first farmer planted to tobacco and also later the livestock was added. Most animals grazed freely on the peninsula, as the sea formed a natural barrier. The many small rivers were used to transport up to the Chesapeake Bay or the Atlantic Ocean as waterways around the products. 1880 has been built in this area, the first railway line and along the rails formed new settlements.
