Essex County (Virginia)

Essex County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 9989 inhabitants and a population density of 15 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tappahannock.

Geography

Essex County is located almost in the extreme northeast of Virginia, about 25 kilometers, from Maryland, and has an area of ​​740 square kilometers, of which 73 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Westmoreland County, Richmond County, Middlesex County, King and Queen County, Caroline County and King George County.

History

Made it in 1692 from the (old ) Rappahannock County. It was named after the eponymous county in England or after the Duke of Essex.
