Patrick County, Virginia

Patrick County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 19,407 inhabitants and a population density of 16 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Stuart. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

Patrick County is located in southwest Virginia, on the south by North Carolina and has an area of 1258 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Franklin County, Henry County, Carroll County and Floyd County.

History

Made it in 1791 from parts of the Patrick Henry County, named after the first governor of Virginia after Independence, Patrick Henry. 1790 Patrick Henry County was divided into a western part (Patrick County) and an eastern part (Henry County).
