Powhatan County, Virginia

Powhatan County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 22 377 inhabitants and a population density of 33 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Powhatan.

Geography

Powhatan County is located just east of the geographic center of Virginia and has an area of 680 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Goochland County, Chesterfield County, Amelia County and Cumberland County.

History

Made it was in 1777 from parts of Cumberland County and Chesterfield County. It was named after the chief, Chief Powhatan, father of Pocahontas.
