Highland County (Virginia)

Highland County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 2,536 inhabitants and a population density of 2 people per square kilometer. Geography

Highland County is in the northwest of Virginia, is bordered to the north and west by West Virginia and has an area of ​​1077 square kilometers without significant water surface. History

Highland County was formed in 1847 from parts of Bath County. The Battle of McDowell took place here on May 8, 1862 held during the American Civil War as part of Major General Thomas Jonathan Stonewall Jackson's Shenandoah campaign in 1862.
