Charles City County, Virginia

Charles City County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 6926 inhabitants and a population density of 15 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), Charles City.

Geography

Charles City County is located in east-central Virginia and has an area of 529 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: New Kent County, James City County, Prince George County, Chesterfield County and Henrico County.

History

Made it in 1634 as an original county. The still used, but refurbished, Courthouse was built in 1750-1760. It is thus one of the five courthouses in the United States, which was built before the Revolutionary War and continuously served as a court.
