Roanoke County is a county of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 85 778 inhabitants and a population density of 132 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Roanoke.

Geography

Roanoke County is located in southwest Virginia, is located in the southwest about 30 miles from West Virginia and has an area of 650 square kilometers without significant water surface. The County is divided into five administrative regions: Catawba, Cave Spring, Hollins, Vinton and Windsor Hills. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Botetourt County, Bedford County, Franklin County, Floyd County, Montgomery County and Craig County.

History

Made it in 1838 from parts of Botetourt County. 1845 came another country ais parts of Montgomery County added. It was named after the Roanoke River.
