Rockingham County (Virginia)
Rockingham County is a county in the United States Virginia United States. In 2000, the County had 67 725 inhabitants and a population density of 31 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Harrisonburg.
Rockingham County is in the northwest of Virginia, cross to the west by West Virginia and has an area of 2210 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Shenandoah County, Page County, Greene County, Albemarle County and Augusta County.
Made it was in 1778 from parts of Augusta County. It was named after the Marquis of Rockingham, a British statesman.
According to the census in 2000, lived in Rockingham County 67 725 people in 25 355 households, and 18,889 families. The population density was 31 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.58 percent White, 1.36 percent African American, 0.13 percent Native American, 0.29 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.90 percent from other races groups; 0.73 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.28 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 25 355 households out of which 32.9 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.4 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers, 25.5 percent were non-families, 21.2 percent of all households and 9.1 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.02.
Based on the county the population was spread from 24.6 percent population under 18 years, 8.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 28.9 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.9 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 97.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 40,748, and the median income for a family was $ 46,262. Males have a median income of $ 30,618, women $ 21,896. The per capita income was $ 18,795. 5.3 percent of families and 8.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 9.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 9.7 percent of those 65 years.
