Rappahannock County, Virginia

Rappahannock County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 6983 inhabitants and a population density of 10 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Washington.

Geography

Rappahannock County is located in Northern Virginia and has an area of 691 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fauquier County, Culpeper County, Madison County, Page County and Warren County.

History

Made it in 1833 from parts of Culpeper County. It was named after the Indian word lapihanne or Toppehannock which can mean tides translated means river of fast-flowing water or the tides.
