Madison County (Virginia)

Madison County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 12,520 inhabitants and a population density of 15 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Madison.

Geography

Madison County is located in north-central Virginia, adjacent to the and has an area of 833 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rappahannock County, Culpeper County, Orange County, Greene County and Page County.

History

Made it was in December 1792 from parts of Culpeper County. It was named after the family Madison, who owned land on the Rapidan River. President James Madison was a descendant of this family.
