Greene County (Virginia)

Greene County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 15,244 inhabitants and a population density of 38 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Stanardsville. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.


Greene County is located in north-central Virginia and has an area of 407 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Madison County, Orange County, Albemarle County, Rockingham County and Page County.


Made it in 1838 from parts of Orange County. It was named after Nathanael Greene, a hero of the American Revolution.
