Shenandoah County, Virginia
Shenandoah County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 35 075 inhabitants and a population density of 26 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Woodstock.
Shenandoah County is located in Northern Virginia, is bordered to the northwest by West Virginia and has an area of 1327 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Frederick County, Warren County, Page County and Rockingham County.
Made it in 1772 from parts of Dunmore County ( no longer exists ). It was named after the Senedos, an Indian tribe. During the American Civil War, the Battle of New Market took place here on 15 May 1864.
According to the census in 2000, lived in Shenandoah County 35 075 people in 14,296 households and 10,064 families. The population density was 26 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 95.60 percent White, 1.17 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.35 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.79 percent from other races groups; 0.89 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.40 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 14,296 households out of which 28.1 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.0 percent were married couples living together, 9.3 percent were single mothers, 29.6 percent were non-families, 25.1 percent of all households and 11.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.86.
Based on the county the population was spread from 22.3 percent population under 18 years, 6.6 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 26.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 17.3 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 39,173, and the median income for a family was $ 45,080. Males have a median income of $ 29,952, women $ 22,312. The per capita income was $ 19,755. 5.8 percent of families and 8.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 12.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 8.8 percent of those 65 years.
