Westmoreland County (Virginia)

Westmoreland County is a county located in the northern " tip ", the so-called Northern Neck of the state of Virginia in the United States. The 2000 census recorded according to the County a total population of 16,718 inhabitants. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Montross.

History

Westmoreland County in 1653 formed from part of Northumberland County. In Westmoreland County 1732 George Washington was born, the first president of the United States. His birthplace is shown as George Washington Birthplace National Monument since 1930.

Geography
