Campbell County (Virginia)
Campbell County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 51 078 inhabitants and a population density of 39 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rustenburg. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Campbell County is located just southwest of the geographic center of Virginia, about 50 km from the North Carolina is in the south away and has an area of 1314 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Appomattox County, Charlotte County, Halifax County, Pittsylvania County, Bedford County and Amherst County.
According to the census of 2000, lived in Campbell County 51 078 people in 20,639 households and 14,694 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 83.24 percent White, 14.71 percent Black or African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.62 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.33 percent from other races groups; 0.90 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.83 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 20,639 households out of which 30.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.0 percent were married couples living together, 11.4 percent were single mothers, 28.8 percent were non-families, 24.6 percent of all households and 8.8 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.91.
Based on the county the population was spread out 24.0 percent of residents under the age of 18, 7.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.5 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 37,280, and the median income for a family was $ 42,901. Males have a median income of $ 32,108, women $ 22,286. The per capita income was $ 18,134. 7.9 percent of families and 10.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 14.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 10.9 percent of those 65 years.
