Goochland County, Virginia
Goochland County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 16 863 inhabitants and a population density of 23 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Goochland.
Goochland County is located just north-east of the geographic center of Virginia and has an area of 751 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Louisa County, Hanover County, Henrico County, Chesterfield County, Powhatan County, and Fluvanna County Cunmberland County.
Made it was in 1727 from parts of Henrico County. It was named after William Gooch, a deputy governor of the County during the colonial period.
After the census of 2000, lived in Goochland County 16 863 people in 6,158 households and 4,710 families. The population density was 23 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 72.71 percent White, 25.64 percent Black or African American, 0.20 percent Native American, 0.47 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.20 percent from other races groups; 0.77 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.85 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,158 households out of which 29.9 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.6 percent were married couples living together, 8.4 percent were single mothers, 23.5 percent were non-families, 19.9 percent of all households and 7.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.88.
Based on the county the population was spread from 21.3 percent population under 18 years, 5.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 32.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 28.9 percent between 45 and 64 years and 12.5 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 56,307, and the median income for a family was $ 64,685. Males had a median income of $ 41,663, women $ 29,519. The per capita income was $ 29,105. 6.9 percent of the population and 4.3 percent of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 7.7 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years old and 8.1 percent are 65 years old.
