Goochland County, Virginia

Goochland County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 16 863 inhabitants and a population density of 23 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Goochland.

Geography

Goochland County is located just north-east of the geographic center of Virginia and has an area of 751 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Louisa County, Hanover County, Henrico County, Chesterfield County, Powhatan County, and Fluvanna County Cunmberland County.

History

Made it was in 1727 from parts of Henrico County. It was named after William Gooch, a deputy governor of the County during the colonial period.
