George Hamilton Pearce

George Hamilton Pearce SM ( born January 9, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts) is Archbishop Emeritus of Suva.

Life

For his education he attended St. Columbkille 's Elementary School in Brighton, the Maryvale Preparatory Seminary in Bedford and the Marist College and Seminary in Framingham. He joined the Congregation of the Marist Fathers and Richard James Cushing, Archbishop of Boston, ordained him on February 3, 1947, the ordination.

Pope Pius XII. appointed him on 29 February 1956 to the Apostolic Vicar of the Schiffer islands and Titular Bishop of Attalea in Pamphylia. The Archbishop of Boston Richard James Cushing donated to him on June 29th of the same year, the episcopal ordination. With the elevation of the Apostolic Vicariate on 21 June 1966, he became the first bishop of Apia.

Paul VI. appointed him on 22 June 1967 the first Archbishop of Suva. Since his resignation as archbishop on 10 April 1976, he lives in Providence, where he led a Marian prayer group in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. He visited Medjugorje in 2002 with a group of American pilgrims.
