George II, Duke of Pomerania

George II ( born January 30, 1582 Barth, † March 27, 1617 in Buckow at Rügenwalde ) was a non- reigning Duke of Pomerania. He managed from 1606 to 1617 together with his brother Bogislaw XIV the Office Rügenwalde.

Life

George belonged to the last generation of the reigning house of Pomerania gripping. It was in 1582, as a younger son of Prince Bogusław XIII. and his first wife Clara of Brunswick born. George and his brothers agreed after the death of her father on the division of the inheritance. According to the agreement dated October 1, 1606 the eldest, was Philip II ( 1573-1618 ), reigning Duke of Pomerania -Stettin. Franz (1577-1620) was a Protestant Bishop of Pomerania. George held the office Rügenwalde together with his older brother Bogislaw XIV ( 1580-1637 ). The youngest brother Ulrich finally initially only received an annual pension.

In office Rügenwalde Georg dealt exclusively with hunting and took no part in the affairs of state. When firing a rifle he lost his left eye light.

Duke George remained unmarried. He died in 1617 in Buckow in his office Rügenwalde and was buried in the Castle Church in Szczecin.
