Ulrich of Pomerania ( * August 12, 1589 in Barth, † October 31, 1622 in Pribbernow ) was Protestant Bishop of Pomerania and non- reigning Duke of Pomerania.

Life and achievements

Ulrich was the youngest son of the Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw XIII. (1544-1606) from the dynasty of griffins. In April 1602, he enrolled to study at the University of Rostock. Ulrich and his brothers agreed after the death of her father on the division of the inheritance. According to the agreement dated October 1, 1606 the eldest, was Philip II ( 1573-1618 ), reigning Duke of Pomerania -Stettin. Franz (1577-1620) was a Protestant Bishop of Pomerania. Bogislaw XIV (1580-1637) and George II (1582-1617) jointly received the Office Rügenwalde. Ulrich, the youngest finally only received an annual pension. After the death of Philip II in 1618, Franz followed this in the government of the Duchy of Pomerania -Stettin and gave the bishopric of Pomerania.

So Ulrich received the office of the Protestant Bishop of Pomerania in 1618. As previously Franz, as well as Ulrich resided in Koszalin. Ulrich already died on October 31 in 1622. He was buried in the Castle Church in Szczecin.

Ulrich married in 1619 in Wolfenbüttel Hedwig of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel ( 1595-1650 ). The marriage remained childless. The Duchess Hedwig resided according to Ulrich's death as a widow in Pommern. There they founded a grammar school in 1640, which was later named after her Princess Hedwig School.

The historian Martin Wehrmann (1861-1937) describes Ulrich as a " fresh, young man, who had kept in amiable gaiety with his wife in Koszalin yard".
