George III, Count of Erbach-Breuberg

George III. of Erbach ( born July 15, 1548 Erbach, † February 26, 1605 ibid ) was Count of Erbach and Breuberg.

Life

George was the eldest son of Eberhard XII. (* January 19, 1511, † July 12, 1564 ), and Margarethe von Dhaun ( born September 25, 1521 † April 5, 1576 ). He was heir to Castle Reichenberg, which he had rebuilt to a sovereign fortress in the Renaissance style.

Circa 1560 he was given the office Wildenstein as Palatine fief, together with his father Eberhard XII. and his uncle Valentin II (* July 16, 1517, † December 12, 1563 ). After the death of his uncle George II (* January 18, 1506; † August 27, 1569 ) was in 1569 united under him the different possessions of the Erbacher again.

Between 1588 and 1590 he was the moated castle Fuerstenau expand. He is buried in the church of Michel town where there is the family vault of the Counts of Erbach since 1678. After his death, the area was divided among his sons again:

  • Friedrich Magnus (1575-1618) inherited Fuerstenau and Reichenberg,
  • John Casimir (1584-1627) Breuberg and Wildenstein,
  • Ludwig I (1579-1643) inherited parts of Erbach and free stone and
  • Georg Albrecht I (1597-1647) inherited Schoenberg and Seeheim.

After the death of Friedrich Magnus his brothers divided the land among themselves again. So in 1623 Fuerstenau came to John Casimir, Michel city and King Ludwig and Reichenberg Georg Albrecht. John Casimir died in 1627, so Wildenstein came to Ludwig and Fuerstenau to Georg Albrecht. With the death of Louis returned all possessions in one hand.

Progeny

George III. married on July 27, 1567 Countess Anna Amalia von Sayn ( * ca 1551; † July 13, 1571 ). The marriage remained childless.

His fourth wife was Countess Maria von Barby (* April 8, 1563; † 19./29 December 1619. ), Daughter of Albrecht X. of Barby - Mühlingen (* February 15, 1534, † 1588) and Maria von Anhalt- Zerbst ( born December 1, 1538 † April 25, 1563 ), widow of Josiah Count of Waldeck -Eisenberg. The couple married on August 2, 1592 and had the following children Korbach:
