George Karsten

George Karsten ( born November 3, 1863 in Rostock, † May 7, 1937 in Halle ( Saale ), full name: George Henry Hermann Karsten, Georg Heinrich Hermann Karsten ) was a German botanist. His botanical author abbreviation is " G.Karst. " And is mainly found in algae, there usually in the form " G. Karsten ".

Career

Karsten, only son and the second of four children of doctoral lawyers and former Acting Mayor of brawn, Karl Karsten (1829-1884) and his wife Helenita, born Blohm (1841-1925), a study of the natural sciences began initially at the Universities of Strasbourg and Zurich, from October in 1884 in his hometown of Rostock. His PhD. took place in 1885 at the University of Strasbourg, his habilitation in 1892 at the University of Leipzig, where he held until 1895 also courses. He then held extraordinary professorships at the University of Kiel ( 1898) and at the University of Bonn ( 1899 ). In 1909 he received an appointment at the University of Halle, where he held a full professorship of botany. At the same time he became director of the botanical garden. His teaching, he continued to appeal Wilhelm Troll 1932.
