George Koumantarakis

George Koumantarakis ( born March 27, 1974 in Athens ) is a South African football player of Greek descent.

George Koumantarakis grew, even though he was born in Athens, in Durban, South Africa on. He started his footballing career at AmaZulu Durban and Durban Manning Rangers, with whom he won the 1997 South African Championship. The following season he played for SuperSport United and Pretoria was South African scorer. On April 6, 1997, he also came to the Congo to its first use in the South African national football team.

1998 Koumantarakis went to Europe and first joined the FC Luzern. After only one season, he moved to FC Basel, where he played four and a half years and had its most successful period. In 2002 he won the club the Swiss league and cup double. He also starred in the same year in the squad of the South African national team for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. He came off the bench in all three players of South Africans. Overall, he came in his career on twelve missions in the national team.

In early 2003 moved Koumantarakis for English club Preston North End before moving to Germany in 2004. He first joined the second division team FC to Rot-Weiß Erfurt. Although he always showed there with his few uses good ideas, but he was repeatedly thrown back by injuries. In total, he played only six games for Erfurt, where he scored two goals. After the descent of the Thuringian Koumantarakis moved to league rivals SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Since he could not play due to injury and there, his contract was terminated in November 2005. Meanwhile Koumantarakis play again in his home country of South Africa, at the Cape Town Spurs.
