George Manville Fenn

George Manville Fenn ( born January 3, 1831 in London, † August 26 1909 in Isleworth ) was an English children's book author.

Initially he received private tuition, he went 1851-1854 at the Battersea Training College for Teachers. Subsequently he was for some time principal (master) of a small school in Lincolnshire, was then Printers and since 1862 published a little successful magazine for poetry, " Modern Metre ". Then he took a partnership in the " Hertfordshire and Essex Observer", but also turned out to be very lucrative.

Fenn began for various magazines, such as Chamber 's Journal and All the Year Round to write. In 1870, he was editor of Cassell 's Magazine, likewise 1873-1879 of Once a Week. He published a large number of children's books, mostly intended for boys who have been reprinted in large part in the U.S..

Since 1855 Fenn was married to Susanna Leake, with whom he had two sons and six daughters.
