George Motola

George Motola (* November 15, 1919 in Hartford, † 15 February 1991) was an American record producer, songwriter and sound engineer.

After his childhood and youth in Hartford the son of an Italian immigrant family, was the mid-1950s to Los Angeles, where he worked as a producer for Modern Records. There, he was responsible for R & B artists such as Jesse Belvin, Jessie Young and Jimmy Beasley. It was his most successful composition Goodnight My Love ( Pleasant Dreams ), which he composed with Jesse Belvin. The latter sold his co-author credits at the present songwriter John Marascalco. The title was a hit and a standard of American pop music.

For his own label Tender Records, he formed from Belvin, Frankie Ervin and Johnny Guitar Watson, a band called The Shields, whose Slade Cover You Cheated became the national focus distributors Dot Records to a chart hit. Another shot for Tender was 1960 Kid Thomas ' Rockin ' this Joint Tonight.

Motola was a prolific songwriter, the BMI leads 121 of its titles, including Shattered Dreams of Johnny Burnette Trio, with Leiber & Stoller Here Comes Henry Young Jessie, Ernie Fields' Annie 's Back and Sanford Clark Lou Be Th he created Most collaborations with his wife, Rickie Page, including Eddie Cochran Jeannie, Jeannie, Jeannie. His wife, also named her girl group The Georgette for her husband.

Motola died 1991. Upon his burial at sea Gretchen Christopher of the Fleetwoods sang his biggest hit Goodnight My Love.
