George Sabra

Georges Sabra (Arabic: جورج صبرا, DMG Ǧūrǧ Şabrah, born July 11, 1947 in Qatana, Rif Dimaschq, Syria ) is a Syrian politician. He was elected in Qatar's capital Doha on November 9, 2012 for the President of the Syrian National Council, the main opposition group in the country.

Sabra is Arab Christian and a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, and is one of the Christian minority in Syria. He earned his doctorate at the University of Damascus, and at the University of Indiana. From 1970 to 1995 he was a member of the faction of Riad al - Turk in the Syrian Communist Party. His predecessor as chairman of the National Council were Abdelbaset Sieda and Burhan Ghaliun.
