Georgetown is the capital of the island of Penang and of the federal state in Malaysia. It is located on the northeastern tip of the island and has 178 358 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005), mainly Chinese. History

The Arulmigu Mahamariamman temple, also Sri Mahamariamman temple or Mariyamman Temple. Economy and infrastructure

Georgetown is one of the main ports of Malaysia and is a hub for rubber and agricultural products.
