George William Coventry, 11th Earl of Coventry

George William Coventry, 11th Earl of Coventry ( * January 25, 1934, † June 14, 2002 in Malaga, Spain) was a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party.

Life and career

Coventry was born on 25 January 1934 as the fourth child and only son of George Coventry, 10th Earl of Coventry, and Hon Nesta Donne Philips ( 1903-1997 ). He attended Stowe School in Buckinghamshire and Eton College.

Coventry graduated from the Royal Military College Sandhurst and then served in the Grenadier Guards. He worked as a stockbroker and also active as a fashion designer, businessman and director of an oil company.

After the death of his father in 1940 he inherited the title of Earl of Coventry and stood at the time the associated seat in the House of Lords. This he lost by the House of Lords Act 1999. For one of the remaining seats he did not present himself. He was regarded as a supporter of John Major after it had occurred in the 1990s in the Conservative Party.

Family

Coventry was married four times. He married on March 22, 1955 Marie Medhart, the daughter of William Medhart. They divorced in 1963. On December 5, 1969, he married Ann Cripps. The divorce took place in 1975. November 29, 1980, he married Valerie Ann Birch. This marriage lasted until 1988. In the fourth and last marriage he was married to Rachel Wynne Mason from 4 July 1992.

He died in June 2002 at the age of 68 years. As his only child, a son from his first marriage, Edward Coventry, Viscount Deerhurst had died in 1997, without his hand to leave sons, inherited his title be then 89- year-old cousin Francis Coventry, 12th Earl of Coventry ( 1912-2004 ).
