George Woltman

George Woltman ( born November 10, 1957) is the founder (1996 ) of the great Internet Mersenne Prime Search ( GIMPS ), a distributed computing project to search for Mersenne primes using his software Prime95 or MPrime.

He made at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1978 his master's degree in computer science. He then worked until 1981 at Data General of operating systems and to 1986 in the development of programming language ALLY for a small software company in Cary, North Carolina. In 1986 he was co-founder of Q E Software, the database tools for Microsoft Windows developed. Since 1994 he lives in Orlando, Florida, where he works for Just for Fun software.

Its created for the GIMPS project, mathematical libraries provide the fastest known algorithm for multiplication of large numbers and are also used by other programs for distributed computing.
