Two Sea Lynx

The Georges- Leygues class is a class of anti-submarine frigates of the French Navy.

Generally

The first three units (Georges Leygues, Dupleix, Montcalm ) in 1971 commissioned and placed 1974-1975 keel. They were 1979, 1981 and 1982 put into service. Four other units (Jean de Vienne, Primauguet, La Motte -Picquet, Latouche Treville - ) followed by 1984-1990. With a planned service life of 30 years, the first three units between 2009 and 2012 to be decommissioned.

The first two units of the Georges- Leygues - class anti-ship missiles are armed with Exocet MM38, while the remaining units have the rich much MM40 contempt improved. The air defense is ensured by an eightfold Crotale starter and two Simbad twin launcher for Mistral missiles. As a gun serve either two 30 mm and two 20 mm machine guns for air defense. As part of an air defense upgrades, the first four units, each with two Sadral - Six- starters for Mistral and two 30-mm-Breda/Mauser guns were fitted.

For their primary task of the anti-submarine, the Georges- Leygues class has an extensive sonar system and two fixed torpedo tubes for the dTc n L5 torpedo. Furthermore, have the units (up to Georges Leygues ) two Sea Lynx helicopters for anti-submarine, armed with two Mk 46 ASW torpedoes.
