Georges Rebelo Chicoti

Georges Rebelo Chicoti is an Angolan politician and, since November 26, 2010 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola.

Life

George Chicoti spent most of his childhood in Zambia and came only in 1975 to Angola. He soon became a confidant of UNITA leader Jonas Savimbi. In the 1980s he was among the first members of UNITA cadres, who were sent to the Ivory Coast to study. In Abidjan George Chikoti highlighted as a political activist and was part of a strong lobby that UNITA had in West Africa. He traveled by several francophone countries. Later he went to France to Paris in urban planning and development study.

However, his relationship with the Unita leadership cooled during this period significantly ( you guessed intrigues of his hand against the guide ) and he was ordered to return to Angola. Chicoti resisted and instead went to Canada; he guessed that there the political influence of the UNITA is much lower. He then went to Portugal, where he Fórum Democrático Angolano ( German: Angolan Democratic Forum ) was formed, which attracted many supporters of UNITA. The group was officially legalized April 14, 1992 in Angola.

The Angolan Democratic Forum took part in the first elections in Angola and won a seat in parliament in the National Assembly in Luanda. George Chikoti was now politically increasingly come closer to the MPLA and was later appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. He then left the uni, to join the MPLA, which looked at many uni - members as a betrayal. But no one doubts his competence.

He is fluent in English, French, Portuguese and Umbundu and Bemba.

On 12 July 2011 evening received Chicoti Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Luanda airport to the start of her short visit to Angola.
