Georgi Kyoseivanov

Georgi Ivanov Kjosseiwanow (also written Georgi Ivanov Kyoseivanov, Bulgarian Георги Иванов Кьосеиванов; born January 19, 1884 in Peschtera; † 27 July 1960 in Switzerland) was a Bulgarian politician and Prime Minister.

Biography

Study and career

Kjosseiwanow graduated in law in Paris, graduating in 1905. Subsequently, he joined the diplomatic service and was involved in diplomatic missions in 1912 in Rome, from 1913 to 1915 in Istanbul as well as in Bern from 1918 to 1920. 1923 to 1924 he was a staff member of the Embassy in Paris and 1925 in Bucharest.

Kjosseiwanow was then 1926-1931 Ambassador to Greece. Following this, he spent two years ambassador to Romania and then from 1933 to 1934 in Yugoslavia. Most recently, he was from 1934 to 1935 Chamberlain of Tsar Boris III.

Minister and Prime Minister from 1935 to 1940

On April 21, 1935, he was appointed by Prime Minister Andrei Toschew foreign minister.

On 23 November 1935 he was appointed as his successor to the Prime Minister. As such, it was up to the February 16, 1940 in office and had thus by Andrei Lyapchev the longest tenure of the post-war period. During this tenure, he also had the post of foreign minister on hold. Kjosseiwanows cabinet was widely seen as completely dependent on the tsar, who ruled largely dictatorial. Nevertheless, in 1938 the first elections were held in 1931 and 1939, various Nazi groups prohibited.

After the coup of 9 September 1944, he went into exile in Switzerland.
