Georgia (typeface)

Georgia is a typeface ( font ), which was designed in 1996 by Matthew Carter for Microsoft.

This modern Antiqua Baroque is characterized by regularity and harmony and was developed specifically for clear presentation and maximum legibility on computer screens. This goal was achieved among other things by hinting by Tom Rickner and the large X - height. The proportional font with serifs also has a true italic. Stylistically, the Georgia is based on the writings, which are summarized in the English language as a Scotch Roman.

In 2006, Georgia experienced a revival in the Internet, especially through the use of blogs. The websites of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the New York Times they use.

The Georgia belongs, as well as the designed by the same team Verdana to Microsoft's core fonts for the Web. It is included in all current Microsoft operating systems and is also available as part of the so-called core fonts free for other systems.
