Gerbrand Adriaenszoon Bredero

Gerbrand Bredero Adriaenszoon ( born March 16, 1585 Amsterdam, † August 23, 1618 ) was a Dutch writer.

Life

Bredero was the son of the shoemaker Adriaen Cornelisz Bredero and his wife Maryghen Gerbrandsd.

Bredero was friends with, among others Pieter C. Hooft, Hugo de Groot and Joost van den Vondel, and was among the most important Kluchten and comedy writers of Dutch literature of the Golden Age.

Bredero remained almost his entire life in his native city of Amsterdam. 1617 was his most famous work De Brabander Spaansche. In this comedy he thematized very lifelike life in Amsterdam and he used for the different characters of the play also different dialects.

Bredero was also a member of the Linguistic Society In Liefd ' Bloeyende. This association ( Rederijkerskamer ) was among the models, according to what was established a few years later in Germany include the Fruitbearing society.

At the age of 33 years Gebrand Adriaenszoon Bredero died on August 23, 1618 in Amsterdam.
