Gerd Leers

Gerardus Bernardus Maria ( Gerd ) Leers ( born July 12, 1951 in Kerkrade ) is a Dutch politician. He is a member of the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA ) and the council of Goirle, a deputy in the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament and mayor of Maastricht for this member of the party was. In the Cabinet Rutte I he was from 2010 to 2012 Minister for Immigration and Asylum.

He studied urban planning and " spatial economy" at the former Catholic University of Nijmegen (now Radboud University Nijmegen).

Gerd Leers is married and lives in Maastricht. He belongs to the Roman Catholic Church. 2002, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Orange- Nassau.
