Gerda Steinhoff

Gerda Steinhoff ' ( born January 29, 1922 in Gdansk - long vehicle, † July 4, 1946 in Gdansk, Stolzenberg ) was camp guard in a concentration camp Stutthof.

Biography

Gerda Steinhoff 1939 maid in Tygenhagen, then worked in a bakery in Gdansk and was Trambahnschaffnerin. In January 1944, she got married and had a child.

In the same year she volunteered for service in the Stutthof concentration camp: By 31 October 1944, it belonged to the SS guards in Stutthof SK III and oversaw 400 prisoners. Then, it was as a block leader Oberaufseherin outdoor labor camp Danzig -Holm and from December 1944 outdoor labor camp Bromberg -Ost, a further sub-camps. In Stutthof, she took part in selections and sent prisoners to the gas chamber. Shortly before the war, she fled from the camp and returned home. Her arrest was made on 25 May 1945.

In the first Stutthof process, she was sentenced along with ten co-defendants to death by hanging and hanged on the Biskupia Górka ( Bishop Hill) in front of a huge crowd together with Elisabeth Becker, Wanda Jenny Barkmann, Wanda Klaff and Ewa Paradies public.
