Gerdau (river)

Gerdau is the 30 km long, left or western source of the river Ilmenau in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

The river rises in the east of the Lüneburg Heath on the northeast edge of the Nature Park South Heath. From its source, the Moor is located north of the 94 m high Faßbergs on a Sander Plateau in the nature reserve Brambosteler, the Gerdau flows along the villages Eimke and Gerdau towards Uelzen. In front of Gerdau in Gerd Auer district Bohlsen the water mill on the river Bohlsen. Their greatest, the Gerdau beatable on water flow and length tributary is the Schwienau which opens coming in large Süstedt from the north. If these are as headwaters, the Gerdau has a length of almost 36 kilometers. To the south of Uelzen it forms with the little smaller, but slightly longer Stederau the Ilmenau. The water is continuously Class II ( moderately polluted ).
