Schwienau (river)

BW

The Schwienau is a 19 km long left tributary of Gerdau. It rises in the pasture break north of Brockhöfe at Wriedel and flows north-west of the United Süstedt in the Gerdau. Initially it flows through a natural greenery. However, already after 2.5 kilometers, it is straightened and passed to a pump station.

After about 9 miles you run flows from north of similarly sized and slightly longer tributary of Oechtringer Bach. The joins the road at Ebstorf Schlingbach loses the middle reaches section be completely water through the permeable subsoil to the 20-meter deep flowing tributaries of the Ilmenau river in the northwest. Would be the middle part not dry, he would be the longest tributary of the Schwienau.

The Schwienau is mostly straightened and rarely flows naturally. The adjacent agricultural use is usually sufficient to close to the shore approach. Only Wriedel and east of it it passes through small forests and untapped heathland. As fluvial sediment load leads mainly sand and alluvium. This has particularly leeches, snails and amphipods habitat. The water is generally moderately polluted ( Class II ). For large Süstedt the Schwienau opens into the Gerdau, although here more water results than the Gerdau is good 5 kilometers longer and, at least above ground, larger by a factor of 2.4 catchment area.
