Gerhard Bassenge

Gerhard Bassenge ( born November 18, 1897 in Ettlingen, † March 13, 1977 in Lübeck ) was a German officer, Major General in the last days of the Second World War.

Important uses of his career was as commander of the 19th Luftwaffe Field Division from October 1942 to January 1943. From February 1943 until his capture in May 1943, he was commander of the fortress area Tunis - Bizerte. He was in British captivity four years.
