Gerhard Charles Rump

Gerhard Charles Rump (* 1947 in Bochum) is an art historian and art theoretician with a focus on contemporary art, lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin, curator, gallerist and photographer.

Biography

He was born on 24 February 1947 in Bochum. After graduating from the Graf- Engelbert- school in 1967, he studied from 1968 to 1972 Art History, English, Philosophy, Education and Psychology, and later anthropology at the Rheinische -Friedrich- Wilhelms University in Bonn. In 1972 he did his PhD on the British Porätisten of the 18th century George Romney. He was Research Specialist at the University Library Bochum, before he took in 1974 as an assistant for Art History at the Rheinische Friedrich- Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. From 1983 he worked as a freelance journalist for "The World " and the " Rheinische Merkur" and for the regional sheets, such as the " Cologne Rundschau " and the " Bonner Rundschau ". He also worked as a Financial Advisor for the " German investment advice ". 1986/7 he was curator of monuments of the city Wesel before (today Tally Genicom ) 1987 first later worked as a manager for corporate communications as a marketing director from the printer manufacturer Mannesmann Tally. In 1987 he completed his habilitation at the University of Duisburg. In 1994, he returned as head of the art market for "The World " to journalism, while he continued his research on art history and art theory. It turned media theory represents a major area; especially the art communication and semiotics. He also continued his artistic career as a photographer. In 2009 he was one of the co-authors of Constantinople Akinshas contribution to the Russian avant-garde, which was awarded the " Clarion Award" from the Association for Women in Communications. In 2010 he finally left "the world " in order to concentrate on university teaching, writing and curating exhibitions. In 2011 he founded together with Catrin Rothe and Bernhard Ailinger the art project and Produzentengalerie " RAR Gallery" - Berlin, New York ( NY) and Palo Alto ( CA).
