Gerhard Haderer

Gerhard Haderer (* 1951 in Leon thing ) is an Austrian cartoonist.

Career

Haderer studied at the College for utility and commercial art in Linz. Following this, he completed a Graveurlehre in Stockholm. He first worked as a decorator at the Quelle AG, then as a graphic designer and illustrator for advertising agencies. In 1984 he began to create satirical drawings that were published to date and watzmann first in the magazines Oberndorf. Since 1985 his cartoons can be found in the profile, and later in Vienna, Titanic, GEO, trend, the Upper Austrian News and Star.

His 2002 book, published The Life of Jesus provoked fierce reactions in particular the Catholic Church. Auxiliary Bishop Andreas Laun of Salzburg called for the observance of § 188 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to 6 months for blasphemy. On 19 January 2005 he was convicted in Greece for insulting a religious community in this book in absentia to six months in prison. This sentence was corrected on 13 April 2005, and Gerhard Haderer was acquitted.

Haderer serves on the scientific advisory board of religious criticism Giordano Bruno Foundation.
