Leonding

Leon thing is a town with 26 053 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the central Upper Austria. To the north it borders with the Danube at Puchenau, to the east of Linz, to the south and to the west Traun Traun and Wilhering. Leon thing is part of the political district of Linz-Land, the competent court is the district court district Traun.

While the name is usually emphasized the city in Leon thing on the first syllable ( [le ː ɔ̯nd̥iŋ ] ), the emphasis in the rest of Austria is usually on the o ( [ leɔnd̥iŋ ] ).

Geography

Leon thing is on 287 meters in the central area. The expansion is 5.8 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 7.4 km. The total area is 24.1 square kilometers. 8.7 percent of the area is forested, 59.8 percent are used for agriculture. The largest contiguous forest area is the Kürnberger forest. The highest point is located in Rufling with an elevation of about 435 meters.

History

Pre-Christian times

One from the period 5000 BC ( Neolithic ) originating settlement site with 34 pits from at least two different phases with Linear Pottery from the Early Neolithic and pottery and fragments of pottery from the middle Neolithic ( Paschinger road ) was found. Furthermore, a more than 6,300 -year-old body was grave ( Leondine ) discovered from the middle Neolithic period with four beautiful pottery and other grave goods.

Stray finds ( old finds ) from the range of several Leondinger Altortschaften, many of them on high ground and in Kürnberger forest dated to the Neolithic period.

Various finds from the Bronze Age in several Leondinger Altortschaften, especially rich in mountain, Alharting and Gaumberg, as well as in the " pure Grub " in Kürnberger Forest ( burial mound ). A hoard was made in Dörnbacher forest, there is also evidence of a partial settlement of the Kürnberges.

The remains of an early settlement were revealed also in the center of Leon thing ( Late Bronze Age / Early Hallstatt Fund ceramics), which is dated at 1300 to 800 BC.

Newer time

Originally in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria lying, was the place since the 12th century the Duchy of Austria. Since 1490 he is the Principality, Austria above the Enns ' attributed. During the Napoleonic wars the place was occupied several times and was then back to Austria. 1898-1905 Adolf Hitler lived as a child with his parents in Leon thing. 1918, the name was officially Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the town belonged to the " Upper Danube ". After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria.

1975 Leon thing became a town. In 2003, the two built from 1972 to 1974 and the recent strong run-down high-rise buildings were blown up by large interest of the public and the media at the Harter Plateau. 2007, the extension of the tramway from Linz was officially sealed until the Leondinger Harter Plateau; the line was opened on 13 August 2011 after a construction period of two years.

Population

Demographics

Had Leon thing in 1810 reported 2,000 residents and around the turn of the century 3829, so in 1945 were already 6,131 people. But it was only after 1945 began the enormous population growth. How much of this influx busied especially after the war of the community, it is clear both from logs that time as well as from the community chronicle. Within 30 years the population rose from 6,131 to 19,100 people. In 2008, Leon thing overtook at the population figures the neighboring town of Traun and has since fourth largest town in Upper Austria. Since 2013 has Leonding the 15th place in the list of cities in Austria and is the fifteenth largest city in Austria.

The Social Democratic Party is the strongest party vote as the mayor Walter Brunner.

Coat of arms

Argent, a red, erect, gold reinforced grip.

The standing Griffin was borrowed from the arms of Pain Men ( landlords and landowners in wood home and Leon thing ). The coat of arms was granted by the Province of Upper Austria on 27 January 1969.

The city colors are red and yellow.

Economy and infrastructure

The 898 farms Leon recently employed 2001 9889 Employees at closing date May 15. Five companies include more than 200 employees to large companies, 10 companies each employed 100-199 employees.

In Leon thing was with the UN shopping one of the largest shopping centers in Austria, the mostly empty stands at present, but should be rebuilt from 2014.

In Leon thing also many well-known and internationally successful businesses are located, such as Ebner Industrial Furnaces (worldwide leading manufacturer of heat treatment equipment for the metal industry; busy - depending on the economic situation - 600 to 1000 employees), Rosenbauer Fire Engines and Equipment Wacker Neuson Construction, Banner Batteries and Poloplast. In Leon thing, is also located the headquarters of bellaflora, Austria's largest garden center chain, as well as the seat of the regional television Linz Country TV.

Traffic

With a station on the Western Railway and 6 stops of LILO ( Untergaumberg, Leon thing Lokalbahn, Straßfeld, Bergham, Am Dürrweg, Rufling, The former station Rufling was merged with On Dürrweg and Rufling West was in 2013 as the new Rufling ) is Leon thing to rail traffic well connected. In August 2011, the extension of the tram line 3, which runs from the Central Station to the Harter Plateau on the preliminary endpoint Dobler timber was opened. In the future this will be extended until after Traun and on to Nettingsdorf.

Buses of Linz lines (lines 11, 12, 17, 19 and 192; Line 15 has been set for the new tram line ) also go to Leon thing. Furthermore, a Stadtteilbus of Linz exists only in lines of Leon thing wrong ( line 191).

Education

At Harter Plateau is the HTL Leonding, offers training in the areas of electronics and IT and organization. Likewise, there is a music school in Leon thing.
