History

The UN shopping was opened on October 16, 1990 in Leon thing - a year after just a few hundred meters in the municipality of Traun situated Plus City, with the Uno shopping is in an ongoing competition. This competition led from 1996 to the planned expansion of the shopping center in Linz residential and commercial complex Lentia 2000 to a kind of proxy war.

As the local shopping center was bought by the owner of the Plus City, the Uno shopping owner rented an apartment in Lentia 2000 and agreed with the following votes on an extension of the shopping center, which must be unanimously approved by the residents, the only one against it. There have been several court cases in this case, in which ultimately the owner of the Uno shopping was found guilty of disturbing the expansion of the shopping center of its competitors, for which he eventually had to make the payment of compensation.

The Uno has shopping even after the expansions in 2005 and 2006, a total area of 44,000 square meters and currently has annual sales of 145 million euros, making it clear, however, is still behind the Plus City. In the two expansion stages has been mainly invested in infrastructure. The resulting car park and a new parking deck have defused the previously often tense parking situation and shortens the access paths for clients.

Since 2009/2010 left the UN successive tenant shopping - now the Einfaufszentrum is mutated to ghost town. As of end of August 2012 coated with InterSpar and Hervis from two other large tenants, so the mall is down to a pharmacy and a location outside branch of the Media Markt chain is empty.

Criticism

In addition to the purchasing power outflow from the center of Linz mainly the result of the high concentration of commercial establishments along the Kremstalstraße (B 139) caused traffic is criticized.

After construction of a new bypass UN shopping is on a high performance circular traffic that holds up to 20,000 vehicles daily. The tram (line 3) by the Linz train station was extended almost to the UN shopping. The first phase opened in 2011, but the trail ends several hundred yards from the shopping center. An extension has been announced for 2015. This should ease the traffic situation.
