Gerhard Hecht

Gerhard Hecht ( born March 16, 1923 in Berlin, † February 22, 2005 ) was a German professional boxer.

Career

Gerhard Hecht was one of the most influential boxers of the first post-war years in Germany. His professional career began in 1947. On April 2, 1950, he boxed against Hans Stretz against which it at a previous meeting in 1948 already by Ko had lost to draw the German middleweight championship, so Stretz defended his title. With just over 1.5 months later, on May 14, 1950 it went against Herbert Kleinwächter to the German championship in the light heavyweight division, but this fight ended in a draw.

On June 24, 1951 Pike came into the forest stage Berlin against Sugar Ray Robinson. Robinson was initially disqualified after an irregular results in the second round, which would have been only its second defeat in 131 battles. Later, however, the fight was turned into a battle without judgment.

In November 1952 Hecht was named after a points victory over Willi Hoepner German champion in the light heavyweight division. In 1954, he won by one point victory over the French defending champion Jacques Hairabedian also the European champion.

Both titles he lost on March 11, again in 1955 to Hoepner, but they could recapture direct rematch again three months later. In addition, he won against Heinz Neuhaus also the national title in the heavyweight division, but he also lost a year later again at Neuhaus.

In 1957, he still managed a points victory against Dutchman Willi Schagen, but then he lost his German championship title on Hoepner, as well as the European title to the Italian Artenio Calzavara. In 1958, he finally ended his career.
