German Castles Association

The German Castle Association eV ( DBV) is dedicated to the preservation of historic military and residential buildings as testimony to history and culture. It is based on the Mark castle above Braubach am Rhein. The club's establishment European Castle Institute (EBI ) is housed with castle castle library and archive in Philip Castle in Braubach.

History

The German Castle Association was founded in 1899 as the " Union for Conservation German castles " in Berlin in 1953 and received its current name. It is the oldest private initiative to preserve German monuments and has since been contributing to the preservation and study of castles and palaces in all of Germany.

In 1900, the German Castles Association acquired the Mark Burg. Your seat, it moved in 1931 to it. Since 1997, also castle Phillipsburg in Braubach is the property of the association.

The first president 1899-1900 was Heinrich Freiherr von Budde Brock. The Berlin architect and founder of the Association Bodo Ebhardt held the board of the Club from 1920 to 1945.

Objectives of the DBV are the conservation of historic military and residential buildings as evidence of the history and culture through:

  • Castle and Construction
  • Publication of research results in the journal " Castles " ( four times a year ) and in the book series " Publications of the German Castles Association "
  • Conducting lectures, seminars, scientific symposia, study tours
  • Public relations for social recognition and material support for the private memorial property
  • Ownership and facilities of European Castle Institute ( EBI) with specialized library, images and plans collection, documentation

The DBV Foundation awards a prize and initiating grants year after year.
