Schweizerischer Burgenverein

The Swiss castle club is an association for the preservation and research of castles and ruins within Switzerland.

The association endeavors of medieval history, especially of castles and everyday life at the castle, a wide circle of interested people almost bring. In addition to the journal Middle Ages - Moyen Age - Medioevo - Temp Medieval Castle, the Swiss club publishes the book series Swiss contributions to the cultural history and archeology of the Middle Ages. History

The current Swiss castle club was created in 1927 as the Swiss Association for the Conservation of castles and ruins, came at a time when the historicism to an end. Its first president was the architect Eugene Probst, founding members was another Erwin Poeschel. Member could be anyone. First, the conservation of castles and ruins, the focus was later archaeological research came about. Under the second President Hugo Schneider (President 1955-1972 ) took place the transformation to the scientific orientation of the association. In 1959 it was renamed to its present name. From first attempts in the 1930s and 1940s, the castle archeology began to be established as a separate branch of research. Under the successor of President Schneider, Werner Meyer (President 1973-1997 ), the archaeological tasks took more and more the cantonal archaeologists and conservators; the castle club saw his task as lying more in the publication of scientific publications. From 1997 to 2003 the association of Heinrich Boxler presided.

The gazette was called from 1927 to 1958 news of the Swiss Association for the Conservation of castles and ruins, and from 1959 to 1995 news of the Swiss castle Association.
