German Cup (ice hockey)

The German Ice Hockey Cup was played in Germany for men, from the 2002/ 03 season to the 2008/09 season a year after the model of the DFB Cup. The round of the cup was doing jointly by the German Ice Hockey League and Hockey operating company ( ESBG ) carried out ( with the German Ice Hockey Federation ). In the 1980s and 90s, there have been several attempts to introduce such competition, which, however, repeatedly failed because of the tight schedule of the professional clubs.

For women, the DEB - Cup will be played for the 2001/ 02 season.

German Ice Hockey Cup Men

Am Cup, the clubs and the DEL Bundesliga 2 as well as some clubs in the league took part, the latter usually play in the preseason a qualification to the launch sites. The German cup winner was played by the 32 teams in the knockout system.

In the 2008 /09 season were played at venues as ESBG preliminary round eight four tournaments. In each case, two ( adjacent) representatives of the ESBG, and two representatives of DEL participated. The respective tournament winners qualified for the Cup quarter-finals.

As of 2005, discussed the abolition of the Cup. The Games of the DEL teams were not very well attended, as a rule, there were also problems with deadlines through the matches of the national team, the increase in DEL, and from 2008 through the Champions Hockey League. Due to the busy schedule through the 2010 Olympics and the World Cup in their own country in the Cup by the DEL was suspended for the 2009/10 season.

DEB - Pokal

After exposure of the German Ice Hockey Cup and the withdrawal of the DEL teams from the new DEB Cup since 2009/10, the competition was contested only by men of the 2nd Bundesliga, Serie A, the German U20 national team and trophy winners from the Regional. The cup winner has won both the trophy a cash prize of 12,000 euros, the defeated opponent in the final, a sum of 6,000 euros, for the competition 2010/11 22,000 euros in prize money awarded.
